Looking after your Welsh Gold Jewellery

Always remove your jewellery before using any household chemicals such as chlorine (bleach). It can be harmful to all types of jewellery.

Extreme temperatures can have an effect on your jewellery too. If you leave a gold ring somewhere hot like on top of a fireplace, it could discolour the gold and harm any stones that may be present, particularly in the case of pearls or semi-precious stones like Peridot or Amethyst.

Always keep your jewellery items separate so they won't scratch or rub against each other, i.e. treat yourself to one of those jewellery boxes that has slots in them for your rings and keep a space between them. Some jewellery boxes have a fairly large open space in them and I've never really been sure as to what this space is for but from what I've seen in the past, they seem to get really cluttered up with earrings, bracelets, rings etc. So if you have a jewellery box like this make sure that you put all your items in seperate 'sealy' bags, and this way they won't rub against eachother, diamonds won't scratch pearls or other gemstones and chains won't get tangled into knots.

For your earrings, it's definitely a good idea to get one or two of those earring 'trees'. Not only can you put earrings on them but you can also add a few rings and maybe a brooch or two.

When doing manual work like gardening or car maintenance, remove your jewellery first. This way, it won't get scratched, buckled, or even worse, chipped or broken stones!

To clean your rings that have diamonds or other gemstones like Emerald, Sapphire, Rubies, Garnet or Amethyst set in them, simply use a soft toothbrush dipped in a solution of warm water and a little washing-up liquid. Make sure that you brush gently underneath the stone/s where applicable. It's a good idea to leave your jewellery in alcohol before doing this to loosen the dirt that accumulates under rings. After cleaning your jewellery this way make sure that you rinse the item/s thoroughly!

Following these steps will keep your jewellery clean, new-looking, bright and sparkly at all times.
