100% Pure Welsh Gold Rings
18ct - 100% Pure Welsh Gold
What makes a Welsh gold ring and what makes a pure Welsh gold ring?

Pure Gold is 100% Gold - or at least 99.9% minimum Gold That is why bars of Pure Welsh Gold are stamped 999 or even 9999. But Gold is often described in Carats (traditionally the weight of a Carob Bean).
Pure 100% gold is 24cts . 18ct Gold is 75% Pure Gold plus 25% other metals and is stamped 750.
9ct Gold is 37.5% Pure Gold plus other metals and is stamped 375.
So we make 18ct pure Welsh gold. Gold is a soft metal and it wears easily so we need to add other more hardy metals to the mix when we make jewellery.
What percentage of the gold used in our jewellery is actually Welsh gold?
In our standard products, We use up to 10% of our Welsh gold in the mix. The rest is ethically sourced gold from one of Britain's leading bullion merchants.. But we have Ingots of 24ct pure Welsh gold stock and can show it to you. Stamped with the mine stamp of the Gwynfynydd mine. At the time of writing, we don't know of any other manufacturer or supplier that can show you their authenticated stamped Welsh gold. You as a consumer must take their word for it. How can you tell Welsh gold from South African, Yukon or more recently Chinese gold? You can't. Gold is Gold but here at Cymru Gold, you can see them on the website in the hands of the M.D. Nigel Blayney.
So our standard Welsh gold jewellery contains up to 10% pure authentic Welsh Gold. But there's something else that we believe only we can offer... A pure Welsh gold ring. We can make 18ct Pure Welsh gold rings but only to order.
As we mentioned previously, no wearable ring should be 100% Gold. But all the Gold used can be 100% Welsh.
We get asked these questions weekly and it's probably not unsurprising that not everyone understands. The reason for the pure Welsh gold rings only being made to order is the cost. Welsh gold is the rarest most desirable gold in the world. It's current value is £2,500 per gram. A 3 gram ring? There's £7,500 right there on just the gold cost alone. The final ring would be in the region of £10-12,000 finished. They may be considered expensive but the owner would be in esteemed company. Mostly Regal company.
Once finished, the ring is assessed and stamped at one of the UK's Assay offices. This authenticates the ring and is proof that your ring is what we say it is. If the ring contains 74.9999% Gold, it's not 18ct. It must be 75% or more. Anything less and it's not it. Each ring is lasered inside with the words 'pure welsh gold' and hallmarked with our makers mark 'CYM'. It's also lasered with a Welsh Dragon stamp and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

Another question we get asked a lot about is panning. Some people assume you can go stand in a Welsh river and should you be successful in finding some gold nuggets or flakes, we can make this into a ring for you. The simple answer is you can't. All gold used in jewellery needs to be refined. Why is this? Gold often contains carcinogens. Old mining techniques would often use materials such as Mercury to extract gold and even Cyanide. You start wearing something with that in it and you're not long for this world. Welsh rivers near old mines are still tested for toxicity. All gold needs to be cleansed and refined and guess what....It's expensive. Anyway, It is illegal to sell gold from Welsh rivers! Full stop.
Most refiners will only accept a minimum amount to work with. They don't want your poisonous little gold flake tarnishing their equipment so refining is something that just isn't an option for Joe Public. in fact most jewellery manufacturers struggle. You need a large amount to even get an order approval and with so few places offering the service, it costs a lot. Basically you may get lucky finding a little bit of Welsh gold but the chances of you ever wearing it on your finger are pretty much zero.
